Julien Monette

Michael Charles Julien Monette is a classical composer and pianist currently undergoing higher education in Music at Christopher Newport University in Virginia.  He was self taught in both composition and piano performance prior to receiving a college education, and also plays the recorder with limited proficiency. 

 

Julien has composed a variety of works, ranging from classically inspired sonatas, concertos, and symphonies to experimental electronic ambient works and short film scores. Julien has performed works by the greats of the genre, including Mozart, Handel, Haydn, and Beethoven, as well as lesser known figures such as Giuseppe Donizetti and Sultan Abdulmejid I. 

 

Julien is interested in studying early music and applying the ideas and techniques of composers of bygone ages to the realm of modern music.  This includes theory from not just the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods, but also the Renaissance, Medieval, and Antique periods.

Julien also teaches and tutors solo and ensemble piano, as well as general musicianship at an undergraduate level, including theory, aural skills, and general keyboard skills.  Pricing for private lessons is generally $30-50 per hour, depending upon factors such as commute time and student skill level and interest.

Julien has studied under a variety of talented musicians pedagogues with storied lineages, including Benjamin Corbin, Ruta Smedina-Starke, Maxwell Tfirn, Mark Reimer, Jacob Tews, Chelsey Hamm, Kelly Rossum, Seung-Hye Kim, and John Irving.  It is through these formative instructors than Julien traces his musical lineage back to figures such as Anthony Braxton, Miles Davis, Vladimir Horowitz, Franz Liszt, Carl Czerny, and Ludwig van Beethoven.
